Intern year: 2009
Current Title: Sales & Marketing Trainee
Most memorable moment: "My most memorable moment at Avnet was outside the office. On the Friday before the 4th of July, Ed Smith (President, EM Americas) invited the EM interns out for a round of golf. It was great to experience an Executive Team Member outside of the office. It showed me that Avnet's core values start at the top. This company's culture is second to none."
Advice to future interns: "Hard because in the end it all pays off. The opportunity to work for an excellent company like Avnet does not come around often."

Name: Michael Sherman
University: Arizona State University
Intern year: 2009
Current Title: Marketing Program Manager
Most memorable intern moment: "My most memorable moment was during training when we were able to listen, ask questions, and talk to the Executives/Presidents of Avnet. There is a very slim chance that a lot of employees were able to meet one of these executives let alone a handful. The advice I received from them was absolutely amazing and I think about that advice every day I work."
Advice to future interns: "Come in with an open mind and soak it in. See if you like the culture, the industry, the people. If you want to set up a meeting with someone to discuss the business or ask for their advice, DO IT! Almost everyone will sit down with an intern and give them advice. Lastly, don't be afraid to ask questions! A LOT OF QUESTIONS! Everyone is willing to answer if you are truly interested in learning about Avnet or business."

Most memorable intern moment: "My internship here at Avnet provided me with real world opportunities to utilize the knowledge I had gained in the classroom. This opportunity has provided me with a tremendous amount of insight into the supply chain operations of a Fortune 500 company. Being able to learn from other professionals in this environment has been truly priceless."
Advice to future interns: "Never stop asking questions, you can't learn if you don't ask."

Name: Aaron Long
University: Arizona State University
Intern year: 2009
Current Title: Supply Chain Analyst
Most memorable intern moment: "What I liked the most about my internship was being able to take toe's dip into Avnet's great working culture. I met an incredible group of people who even during a very busy fiscal-year-end gave time to teach and help us interns understand Avnet's purpose and long-standing goals. I learned more about the workings of business in those 3 months than I did in my entire 4 years of college.
I have 2 memorable moments! My first was meeting Avnet CEO Roy Vallee and listening to his story. I had the opportunity to speak with him directly and I can say if you ever have the chance to do so… do it! My second memorable moment had to be the ice-cream sandwich eating contest where I almost took the title from the long-standing champion! "
Advice to future interns: "My advice would be two things; first, meet and get to know as many people as you can. Every person at Avnet has a wealth of knowledge and unique perspective that you can learn from; internships are the best opportunity to build your network of professionals! And my second piece of advice, remember their names! "

Intern year: 2008
Current Title: Supply Chain Analyst
Most memorable intern moment: "I really enjoyed moving around the different departments and having the possibility of figuring out what area of the business interested me the most. We had a lot of fun activities in our intern group. I remember going go kart racing, getting a tour of Avnet's Chandler warehouse and spending time and helping out at an after school youth club. We ended up donating toys and other supplies to help out the kids which was the best feeling in the world!"
Advice to future interns: "Network! You will come to find that the employees at Avnet want to get to know you and help you in any way they can. They are your most valuable resource." "

Name: Mike Deluca
University: Winona State University
Intern year: 2007
Current Title: Supply Chain Analyst
Most memorable intern moment: "What was really great about the internship is how it was set up to prepare you for the real world. You are given the opportunity to work at a Fortune 200 company and interact daily with the people who are responsible for that prestigious ranking. One of the things that I enjoyed most was that every day was a new learning experience. During the nine week program you get to see the company from all angles. You really can get a strong feel for where you want to be when you pursue a career at Avnet. I grew a lot as an individual that summer and had a lot of fun doing it!"
Advice to future interns: "My advice to future interns would be to work hard and stay in touch with the people you met over the summer. Also, if there is something you are interested in learning more about don't be afraid to ask questions."

Most memorable intern moment: "Although the entire Avnet Internship was an incredible experience, the most memorable aspect was the one-on-one time spent with managers and executives. They provided personal and work related advice that will guide my entire career. Avnet's human capital is by far the most valuable resource of the entire company."

Current Title: Project Leader
Most memorable intern moment: "My most memorable moment in the internship was presenting our final project to top Avnet executives. Although it was nerve-racking, it was a fabulous opportunity to meet and be heard by Avnet's leadership team. I was impressed by how open to our ideas everyone at Avnet was. They treated us as valuable resources and assigned us significant and interesting projects—not getting coffee or doing filing."
Advice to future interns: "Enjoy the experience! As probably your first real business experience, you may be nervous, but take some time to relax and enjoy your internship."

"My internship with Avnet was more than I could have asked for. I made great friends, not only with the other interns but with my mentors as well. We had the opportunity to work on real challenges that the company was facing, and now as a full-time employee I have had the chance to continue those projects and dig deeper into the root causes of those challenges. If you are invited to intern with Avnet, go for it! You won't be disappointed! My experience has been amazing - Both as an intern and as a full-time employee of Avnet Technology Solutions."
