Vice President, Avnet, Inc.;
Fred Cuen was named senior vice president and general manager, IBM Solutions, Avnet Technology Solutions, Americas, in April 2009. In this position, he reports to Jeff Bawol, president of Avnet Technology Solutions, Americas, and is responsible for the strategic direction and growth of Avnet's IBM business in the Americas. Prior to taking this assignment, Mr. Cuen led Avnet, Inc.'s global Voice of the Customer program. Mr. Cuen has served in many leadership positions both at Avnet and IBM. From May 2005 to May 2008 he served as president of Avnet Technology Solutions, Americas, where he was responsible for the strategic vision, leadership and day-to-day management of the Americas region. He was elected a corporate officer in 2005. From August 2002 until May 2005, he was president of Avnet Technology Solutions, IBM Americas, with responsibility for Avnet Technology Solutions' IBM businesses in the United States, Mexico, Canada and Australia. Before that, he served as executive vice president and general manager, and previously had been senior vice president of sales and general manager, IBM Business Unit, for Avnet Hall-Mark (now Avnet Technology Solutions). Under Mr. Cuen's leadership, Avnet's IBM distribution business grew from $800 million to more than $1.2 billion. Prior to joining Avnet, Mr. Cuen was vice president of sales and business development at Savoir Technology Group, which was acquired by Avnet in 2000. Mr. Cuen's community involvement includes work with Habitat for Humanity and Under the Bridge, an outreach program serving the homeless in San Antonio, Texas. He also chaired the United Way of San Antonio and served on the board of directors of the Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA).
