Sydney -- Avnet Technology Solutions, a solutions distributor of enterprise computing products, software and services, and an operating group of Avnet, Inc. (NYSE: AVT), today announced its intention to work with Queensland-based distributor Cellnet to take over its IBM server and storage business, including customer management and staff. Cellnet officially confirmed its intention to exit the IBM business in a separate announcement.
Gavin Lawless, general manager of Avnet Technology Solutions Australia, said that the arrangement reaffirms Avnet's commitment to IBM and is a significant step toward solidifying Avnet's IBM distribution leadership position in the Australian market.
"This arrangement with Cellnet makes business sense for Avnet," said Lawless. "We had been planning to ramp up our IBM business over the next 12 months and, when the Cellnet opportunity arose, it was an obvious way to fast track our growth strategy. It also makes sense for Cellnet's IBM resellers as it will enable them to continue to serve their customers without disruption. It's a win-win for everyone."
Avnet Technology Solutions Australia will now have a greater presence in Brisbane as a result of this transaction. "Our arrangement with Cellnet is to help transition their IBM business as seamlessly as possible, so maintaining resources in Brisbane not only ensures this, but also allows us to expand our geographic footprint," Lawless added.
